To help you decide, we’ve put together a list of reasons why you might do it.
Short term leasing has become more popular in the recent years. We believe that a lot of this is down to the uncertainty in the economy, meaning people can commit to leases that can be as low as 6 months.
If this sounds like you, and you’re considering doing it, you might ask whether it’s worth leasing a car for 6 months? To help you decide, we’ve put together a list of reasons why you might do it.
Before you skip into those reasons though, just a reminder that you can see our latest 6 month lease deals on this link.
Why it could be worth it leasing a car for 6 months
1. Flexibility
It could be worth leasing a car for 6 months if you want the flexibility to change from a 4x4 in the winter to a convertible for the warmer summer months. Similarly, some people sign up to a short term car lease for 6 months to test drive a certain make and model before buying one.
If you compare the cost of a 6 month car lease, versus buying a car and then realising you have made a mistake, it’s certainly worth it!
You might also only need a car for a short period of time, such as for a temporary job assignment or a short-term relocation for 6 months. If that is the case, it makes no sense to commit to a car lease for longer than 6 months at a time.
This will often be the case with international workers coming to the UK on a work secondment and require a car for only half a year (certain T&C’s will apply).
A 6 month car lease could also be worth it as a stop gap if you’re waiting for your new car to be delivered. Alternatively you could also sign-up to a year long lease with ACL if further time is needed.
If you’re a business taking on new starters, you might require a car for them whilst in their probation period.
2. Uncertainty
As mentioned from the outset of the article, many people are choosing short-term leases due to uncertainty in the economy. This means they are reluctant to commit to a long-term financial obligation, such as a traditional car lease which can range from 24 to 36 months.
If you think your financial situation could change in 6 months, then a short-term lease could be worth it for your peace of mind.
However, there should be a caveat with all of this.
For some people, leasing a car for 6 months is not worth it, and they might be better off opting for a longer term contract over 18 to 36 months.
Before you commit, consider the costs and restrictions of a short-term lease compared to a long-term lease. For example, the mileage restrictions might not suit how far you plan to drive in half a year.
